Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 - 4:24 p.m. Yesterday was Ash Wednesday. And for me, an outing to see Lewis Black. I guess I've always lived in more protestant areas of the country because I'd never actually seen people walking around on ash Wednesday with ashes on their forehead until yesterday. It caught me completely off guard and I remembered only a second before I told a guy at work that he had something on his head what day it was. And it's amazing how good laughter is for you. Just do something that'll make you laugh for a couple of hours and you'll feel so much lighter. Literally, I got home last night feeling just really good. Lewis Black is a funny guy and he makes some really good points. And also, opening yesterday was Mel Gibson's movie "the Passion of the Christ" which I'm certain will be huge at the box office because of all the controversy surrounding it. I admit even I kind of want to see it just to make up my own opinion. I read that many people find it anti-semitic because it blames the Jews for Jesus' death and that that has long been the reason for a lot of anti-semitism. Disregarding whether the movie implies that or not, or even if Jews were connected to jesus' death or not, what I don't understand is why people (Christians) would use that as a reason to hate them (Jews). Does the whole faith not stem from the fact that Jesus died to wipe away everyone's sins? Wasn't this something that God planned from the moment Jesus was born? Therefore, why should you hate the people that actually helped him fulfill his destiny? It's something that always confused me.
