LEAVE A NOTE

Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 - 11:56 a.m.

Recap.

Thursday, September 23rd was the day of locking my keys in my car.

I went to the eye doctor's office early to get refitted for contact lenses. However, shortly before leaving I was getting dizzy, and as I walked to my car it was getting worse. So, I grabbed some things from my car and decided to head back in to ask about that. Two seconds after closing the door I realized I'd left my keys inside.

I called a friend (Dennis). He had to do some things but took me along, then we had lunch, then we went back to my car to try to break in. Eventually, I gave up even though he hadn't, and called another friend, Liz. Her dad actually had one of those things the cops used to carry that slide in next to your window. So she brought that along and voila, open door.

Then I headed to do another errand. I was still feeling weird about my contacts and had to grab a bunch of papers out of my backpack and make sure I had everything....so, I rushed to the office and only upon returning to my car did I realize I didn't have my keys with me. There they were sitting on the seat. Never have I felt so stupid I swear.

So, too embarrased to call and bother my friend again I was standing there, frustrated, trying to figure out what to do when this guy asked what was wrong.

So I explained and he decided he was going to help me and sent me to the office building nearby in search of a wire hanger. I visited several offices before being referred to an MRI office with some incredibly nice people. They said they'd help so I went to tell the first guy that it was ok.

In the meantime, he'd found a hanger and was trying to open my door for me. He couldn't and I thanked him for his help. I headed back to the MRI office and they called the police for me (who are no longer allowed to open doors for people) and then one woman used her triple A for me. When the guy from the towing place got there he was really friendly and offered to teach me how to break into cars. when I asked if he needed the AAA card he said "I just need a smile."

Kindness of strangers.

After that I headed to work and did not lock my keys in my car anymore. But, I'm definately getting a spare made.

Friday, September 24th. My 26th birthday.

I think I can agree with Heather's description here of how it feels to be this age.

I don't feel old. I don't feel any different than I did a couple years ago. But sometimes I do feel like it's time to figure it all out already, and like the more time goes by the more I'm just competing with people much younger than me. Whatever.

It was a simple birthday, but one of the nicest I can remember.

I got cards in the mail from several friends and family (including Danny's with hand drawn dancing bears). Denver sent me a gift. I also got gifts from Jairo, Jason, and Deirdre & Adam (who I was definately not expecting a gift from). Gifts always catch me off guard.

And I got phone calls from my mom, my brother, Matt, my uncle Jimi, Chris from Wizard.

My friends took me out to dinner. It ended up being me, Jairo, Dylan, James & Christa (who I give a lot of credit to for me and Jairo finally getting together), Brad & his girlfriend Julie, Adam & Deirdre, Jason, Liz, and Christie.

And it was just my kind of thing. Nothing too outrageous. Just me and a bunch of people I like. And it still made me feel special.

And then of course yesterday (Saturday) I worked. And today I work. I think it's time to look into new employement.
