Monday, Dec. 06, 2004 - 1:21 p.m. Currently at temp job. Temp job is at a real esate appraisal company. My title is "appraisal clerk." (Oh yeah, I didn't hear back from my friend's mom and kept getting temp offers, so I went ahead and took the temp job and thanked her while declining) It's a nice place with really nice people. And I'm going to be making more money than in retail. However, the work is boring. I kind of knew it would be, but it is. and even that's ok, as long as I've got some to do (cause I'm doing a lot of entering info and such), but once I'm out of work left, I get really really bored and have no way of finding work for myself to do. I can literally do it without thinking. So, I've taken to listening to books while at work. I've "read" "Little Earthquakes." It was quite good. Now I am listening to "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." I have read it before, but was in the mood for something familiar. But the drawback to temping comes in not knowing details or people. I'm definately an outsider here and while everyone's friendly, I am not part of the little groups of friends. and I don't know little things....so I've been trying to pay attention to my coworkers. For example, I've been picking up on the dress code by watching the other women around here. The girl next to me has her cell phone on her desk (although she hasn't used it) and has been on the phone and written emails that don't seem work related. But I don't know about the phone and I don't have an email address. And they have something called websense that is blocking web based email here. so I feel very cut off. And there is this annoying key card thing. All the doors are locked so that you need a key card. I don't have one though. This wouldn't really be much of a problem, except that the bathroom is in the hallway, so if I leave for the bathroom I have to leave the door open or hope that someone comes by with a key. So, all in all it's ok. Definately not something I could do forever (unless I learn something more - something that requires thought), but it's cool for now.
