Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 - 3:02 p.m. I'm at work. It's been too long since I've written and I've wanted to, but lots has kept me from it. So, in the endless time I have at work (which is making me very bored and the day very long) I'm going to use this time to recap on almost a month's tidbits and thoughts, the stuff that I felt like mattered enough to note. I'll start with this. I was listening to the Spanish CDs in my car and doing fine.....and then they were suddenly done and all I'd really learned was how to say "I don't speak Spanish" and "I'd like to eat something at the restaurant" and "where are you from?" Which really doesn't start me on my path to being able to speak Spanish. It only gives me a few more words that I can pick out when I hear it. So, I'm a little frustrated that the only courses I can find at the library are simple, short beginners courses, or are full workbook computer software courses. I'll have to think of a new step. So, the day of my last entry; Friday Dec. 10, 2004 continued thus. I got a haircut. I wasn't exactly satisfied with it and at one point the lady got all frustrated at me and snapped that I needed to figure out a way to explain to her what I wanted since she was clearly not understanding. I balked. I couldn't figure out a new way to explain what I'd already rambled so much in several ways about. But by the end (too late to do it this time) she seemed to get what I wanted and said that's what we'll do next time. I may go back just to give someone a second shot at my hair, but we'll see. After that I got a call from Jairo and I met him and Dylan and a new guy at their job, Ben, for dinner. It was really nice to see Dylan even though it seemed that by doing so we missed seeing a movie with one of Jairo's friends. Saturday (12/11/04) I did my first day back at the candle shop. I'd agreed to work the weekend for them because they'd just lost an employee due to family crisis. At the end of the night, the other girl that worked there invited me to hang out with her and a friend of hers. And I had one of those nights you can only have with someone that has moved often and learned how to treat strangers like old friends. It was nice though and perhaps I made a friend. Her name is Tana and her friend's name was Ebony. We walked the mall and ranted about Tali, the manager at the candle shop. I learned that I'm not the only one that felt that they expected you to give too much of your life to the place, or was annoyed at their version of "helping customers." In fact, Tali got yelled at by a man while I was there, saying "you really shouldn't follow people around the store like you don't trust them." and she didn't even realize the validity of his statement. I also learned that the implication had been made that I had been fired and not just left for a different job. Given that information, and the fact that after I gave up my weekend to help them out and she had me leave hours early each day (thus making me not make the money I thought I would), I don't think I'll be helping them again. It's not worth it. It's a hassle for not much pay off and almost no thanks. Anyway, but I hung out with Tana and Ebony. We ended up watching "LA Story" at her house until late. oh yeah, and she happens to be a twin too. Sunday (12/12/04) I worked again. This day I met a wonderful woman from Connecticut. It was one of those experiences that you can't quite explain why it was so profound, but it was. ....works ending early, so "to be continued"
