LEAVE A NOTE

Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 - 2:54 p.m.

Today I was exercising, listening to Good Charlotte's album "Chronicles of Life and Death."

These lyrics from "In the World (Murder)" jumped out at me:
"In this world all our sins are simple,
but you step over innocent lines.
And in this world it's not all our money that's evil.
It's the ones who choose it over life."

I have some friends that do that lame thing where they have to hate Good Charlotte (and bands similar) because they're pop and because teens like them, or something. I think that is even lamer than liking them solely because they're popular.

And I have to say, this group grabbed me with nothing but their music. It's good. The first song I heard by them was "Little Things." And that struck me because....well, I could identify with some of it. But it was also catchy.

And then I listened to their last album because of the radio singles...I wanted to hear the rest of it. And it was good.

But this album, "The Chronicles of Life and Death," this album is fantastic. I love it. I can listen to it from start to finish and I like every song. They work together to create a cohesive *album* which doesn't really happen anymore (I actually read an article about that recently somewhere - the death of albums due to mp3 players and single driven sales). And most times when I listen to it, something new grabs my focus; a lyric (like today), a specific riff or bass line or drum beat, or something. That's quality in music.
